Ender's Game: The Possibility I Didn't Consider

Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movies Yeah, yeah, old news, Ender's Game is getting made into a movie. My thoughts: Meh. Could suck eggs, but the author is involved, so maybe there's a chance they won't cast Haley Joel Osmont as Ender.

What I hadn't thought about: The Video Game Tie-Ins *shudder* (warning: site is freaking slow today)

Thomas McMahon

Author News The Globe and Mail has a mini-review/bio of Thomas McMahon, a biology professor that wrote three fictional novels before his death 5 years ago. I had never heard of the books mentioned, but the main character learning how to use his voice to exploit the phone system reminded me of Joe Engressia, who was also a sort-of model for David Strathairn's Whistler character in Sneakers.

Maybe McMahon's books will be the next ones added to my reading list. :)

Neil Gaiman interviews Gene Wolfe, hilarity ensues
Posted by Cyrie on: Tuesday 20 January @ 16:48:11

Author News Ok, confession time: I've tried about 5 times to read The Book of the New Sun series by Gene Wolfe (Mozilla users, watch that link, it seems to want to force me to open another app suddenly) - I have the first two books, the Shadow of the Torturer and the Claw of the Conciliator as one volume. Usually, I get about halfway through and then I put the book down and stop reading it. I have no idea why I have problems getting into it (since I can totally appreciate the crafting of the language in the book), but I do. Anyway, this has meant that I haven't read anything else by Wolfe.

I came across the following link on boingboing: Neil Gaiman interviews Gene Wolfe and it's a pretty entertaining read, a good glimpse into the creating of a plausible and fresh fantasy world.

Maybe I'll use my Chapters/Indigo gift card for The Knight instead of waiting until Kushiel's Avatar comes out in paperback.
